on sharing and being vulnerable

I'm finding that developing a writer is a tricky thing!

A writer puts him (or her!) self in a very vulnerable place to read his work to an audience. Family is as safe an audience as anyone will find, but even that exposes us in a very real way. For that reason, I don't require the kids to read aloud at our workshops. (I do, however, strongly encourage!) At this point, the kids are all eager to share with me - but in many cases, that has been where it ends.

Add to that vulnerability a child's emotional need to be accepted, and any criticism - real or perceived - can crush a budding writer's confidence.

With that in mind, both Wesley and Halle have been writing songs. They're worship songs, and written directly from their own hearts to their God. Halle wants to share hers ... Wes is still building confidence to share with a wider audience. I'm hoping that happens soon! In the meantime ...

The Sunshine Shows

When the sunshine shows and the wind blows,
it makes me feel like singing.

When the sunshine shows and the wind blows,
it makes me feel like singing a song to thee.

When the sunshine shows and the wind blows,
it makes me feel like I'm where I'm meant to be.

~ Halle

Be kind! As these are primarily kids' creative works - and many are works-in-progress - please keep comments POSITIVE! :) Consider what you liked, what you learned and what inspires you. Thanks!
